Electric Heating Installation

Here in Alberta, homes are typically heated using natural gas whether it’s a traditional forced air furnace or in floor heating using a boiler system. But what if you need supplemental heating in your home? An electric heater may be the answer. With electric heating installation, these heaters use electricity and a resistive heating element to produce heat.  Unlike fuel burning heaters, electric heating does not require ventilation or a chimney.

Types of electric heaters

There are several types of electric heaters, all with different wiring requirements.

Electric Baseboard heaters

These are long resistive heaters typically placed near the floor above the baseboard.  These heaters work by heating the air through convection. Electric baseboard heaters can be used as supplemental heating in bedrooms, basements, bathrooms or any area that requires additional heating.

Electric fan heaters

These heaters consist of a resistive element and an electric fan. As the heating element heats The fan blows air across the element to provide a steady heating effect. Electric fan heaters are typically used in garages and workshops

Radiant infrared heaters

Radiant infrared heaters are unique as they are designed to heat objects or people directly in front of the unit instead of heating the air in the room.  They are great for providing immediate direct heat however they are slow to heat entire rooms since the heat is not passed directly into the air. These types of heaters are popular in outdoor areas such as patios.

Electric fireplaces

Electric fireplaces create the ambiance and warmth of a natural gas or woodburning fireplace without the needed ventilation and chimney.  They are simply a fan operated heater which incorporates a simulated fire effect to create the illusion of an open flame similar to a wood-burning or gas fireplace. They are ideal for supplemental heating and creating a relaxing ambiance.

Electric in floor heating

Electric in-floor heating uses a heating element cable embedded in the floor to provide a warm and comfortable surface. Homeowners most commonly install this system in bathrooms and basement areas, where tile floors would otherwise feel cold. Installers place in-floor heating systems beneath ceramic tile and other types of flooring
